Our Purpose is to help the Salvation Army provide warm clothing to people in our community throughout the cold winter months.  We are asking for donations from the community for our raffle.  Our goal is to raise $7,000 to buy coats, hats, gloves, and blankets and donate them to the Salvation Army.  The Salvation Army is a non-profit organization and your donation is tax deductible.

Lacey Timberland Library’s new “Bibliotopia”
--a kind of paradise for book lovers
 
“I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library,” said writer Jorge Luis Borges. The Lacey Timberland Library will launch “Bibliotopia,” a monthly book discussion group—a kind heaven for readers who love to talk and hear about books—on  November 7 and December 19. Participants may bring paperback books to trade. Coffee and snacks will be provided by the Friends of the Lacey Timberland Library.

The 28th Annual Holiday Bazaar at Fort Lewis

November. 7 and 8 —Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.

Open to everyone.

Admission is $2, children 15 and under are free.  

Vendors galore will be set up, ready to sell and take orders.

Our RAFFLE includes a particularly-spectacular QUILT, designed and created by our own Quilting Club. The quilt will be displayed at various locations throughout the Fort Lewis Community, at which time raffle tickets can be purchased for $2 each. 

This year we are also holding a raffle for a beautiful print called:  "Lord Grant Me the Strength..." by Marc Wolfe.  It was donated by America's Gallery, located in the Mini Mall. Fun for the whole family!

There will also be a SILENT AUCTION featuring various local, and not so local items for you to bid on.

DOOR PRIZES will be given away throughout the event.

 Singles Event Combines Service and Speed Dating

Socially-conscious singles can find their soul mate at a service-focused party on Nov. 7 at the Golf Club at Hawks Prairie in Lacey.

The event, hosted by the Volunteer Center of Lewis, Mason and Thurston Counties and Table For Two, gives South Sound singles over 21 a chance to meet people of similar interests. The event begins at 7 p.m. and will include a speed-dating session, the opportunity to decorate and fill stockings for foster kids and a gift tree with suggested gifts for people in our community who are in need. The night of fun and philanthropy also will offer singles a chance to check out other short and long term opportunities for volunteering in the area.

Festivities include beverages and hors d’oeuvres and a no-host bar. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. The Golf Club is located at 8383 Vicwood Lane in Lacey. Proceeds from the event benefit UCAN, Capital Kids Connection and the Crisis Clinic.

Timberline High School  is hosting a Veteran’s Day Assembly
 this coming Tuesday
 November 10th beginning at
9 am in our gym.   We cordially invite those individuals who have served their country and community or are currently on active duty to attend this event honoring their commitment.  There is handicap access for anyone requiring it.  We especially would like to encourage any World War II veterans to attend.  Their will be a reception for those guests following the assembly.

Interfaith Works & Earth Care Catholics present this award winning documentary about the world water crisis builds a case against the growing privatization of the world's dwindling fresh water supply with an unflinching focus on politics, pollution, human rights, and the emergence of a domineering world water cartel. Discussion will follow.
 
Interviews with scientists and activists intelligently reveal the rapidly building crisis, at both the global and human scale, and the film introduces many of the governmental and corporate culprits behind the water grab, while begging the question " CAN ANYONE REALLY OWN WATER?"  Beyond identifying the problem FLOW also gives viewers a look at the people and institutions providing practical solutions to the water crisis and those developing new technologies, which are fast becoming blueprints for a successful global and economic turnaround.

National Survivors of Suicide Day

Every year, more than 32,000 people die by suicide, and every one of them leaves behind loved ones and friends. Pacific Lutheran University in Parkland is among 130 plus conference sites participating in National Survivors of Suicide Day, sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. The annual program features a panel comprised of survivors of suicide loss and medical experts. The Day allows survivors of suicide loss to connect with other survivors in their local community in an empowering and healing environment. The conference is sponsored by Auburn~Olympia~Tacoma Survivors of Suicide, a healing support group for those who have lost a loved one to suicide.

Have you lost a loved one to suicide?  National Survivors of Suicide Day is Saturday, November 22nd. There will be conferences for survivors of suicide loss in over 130 cities, including Tacoma. Providence St. Peter Foundation presents Christmas Forest 2009. 

Opening Thanksgiving Day, it's a holiday experience for the whole family including decorated trees, live entertainment, a unique raffle, a holiday gift shop and more!  The festivities include public viewing dates, a Santa Breakfast with special entertainment by Buck & Elizabeth, a Silver Bells Breakfast, the Gala Dinner and Auction, and a special scrapbooking workshop.  Proceeds benefit the Providence mission to provide basic health services to those in need.

THE HOLLY AND THE HOLY 
The Olympia Choral Society will present “The Holly and the Holy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, December 11 and Saturday, December 12 and again at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 13 at the North Thurston Performing Arts Center off Sleater Kinney Rd NE, at 4155 6th Ave NE in Lacey (behind the main campus of North Thurston High School near the stadium). 

The Olympia Choral Society members share one purpose and that is to serve the community by offering FREE concerts to all who appreciate a variety of great music.   

You are invited to get in the Christmas holiday spirit as they begin their 12th season with founder and director, Terrance Robert Bernard Shaw. Come and enjoy familiar holiday songs such as “White Christmas”, “Joy to the World”, “Deck the Halls”, and other songs with familiar melodies.  There also will be songs with a twist. This season will debut a commissioned piece written specifically for the Olympia Choral Society entitled, “Quamobrem Concinere”. Translated it is “Why We Sing”.  It is a beautiful piece composed by a member of the group, Catherine Bennett.

THE OTHER BANK

Please donate personal hygiene and household cleaning supplies to THE OTHER BANK at the YWCA of Olympia.  We have been serving women, children, and families in need in Thurston, Mason, and Lewis counties for 24 years.  We are especially in need of dishsoap, diapers, toothpaste, and toothbrushes.  We also always need feminine hygiene, deodorant, shampoo, laundry soap, and toilet paper.  We are located at 220 Union Ave SE in Olympia and accept donations Monday through Friday from 9-5.


       
Crohn's & Colitis Support Group Meeting

Close the Gap Coalition Volunteer Opportunities

The Better Business Bureau’s Consumer Education Video Series is now available at local public libraries. The video series addresses the most troubling issues consumers face and includes titles like: "Identity Theft," and "Self Defense for Car Expense."  Check one out today at your local public library.
